Reducing fawn deaths from cryptosporidium
Reducing Fawn deaths.
An issue with fawn deaths around Christmas time due to cryptosporidium was a recurring issue for one farm.
The year before the AP started they had lost 20% of their fawn crop.
In the worst year 50% of fawns were lost.
A number of management changes were made the two most significant of which was getting the whole farm reticulated and increasing the cover in fawning paddocks (aiming for 2500kgDM/ha).
Although this high cover made maintenance of pasture quality challenging the result has been well worth it.
Two seasons now with no fawn deaths from crypto.
