Cost/Benefit of buying in extra feed.
Feed costs increased by $13,200. Revenue increased by $60,730. The farm is $47,000 better off for having purchased the feed.
In 2016 The Blackburns shifted to a policy of using a self-feed silage pit for their Red Deer Hinds, and buying in more supplements to increase the feed available for livestock.
Because of a kill of unexpectedly empty hinds in 2015 total venison production dropped. But the change in feed management allowed greater beef and velvet production, which increased farm profit.
