22% improvement in R2 fawning rate

There was a 6% improvement in pregnancy rate and 22% increase in weaning rate in the R2 hinds by increasing mating weight, reducing fawning mob size, calving in gullies and using Flexidine (one mob only).

• Mating weight for R2s lifted from 95 kg 2016 to 100 kg for 2017

• Set stocking for 2016/17 was 2 mobs of 110 and 49. 30 odd yearlings poked into the mob of 110 over fawning, which would not have helped this mob. The 49 were in a paddock.

• 2017/18: 3 mobs of approximately mid 40 hinds were set stocked in smaller gullies.

• One mob had a Flexidine injection at set stocking and weaned 100% (More work needed here to see if it was a “fluke” or not!)
